Dhangadhi Premier League Season 2- Preview
As all the six teams of the Dhangadhi Premier League (DPL) complete final preparations, the cricket championship with the biggest cash prize in the country is set to kick off on Saturday at the Seti Zone Police Cricket Ground.
Highlights of the six teams:
Talent Hunt Player: Subodh Ayer
Foreign Players: Babar Hayat (Hong Kong) and Shubham Kamat (India)
Strength: Biratnagar Kings can field an all international playing XI in the very first match of the Ruslan DPL.
Prospects: Kings looks little light on bowling but the presence of three to four biggest match winners from the tournament shouldn’t be difficult for them to reach the final. They start as the run-away favorites.
Squad: Subash Khakurel, Dipendra Singh Airee, Prem Tamang, Sandeep Jora, Kushal Bhurtel, Krishna Karki, Kamal Singh Airee, Binod Lama, Suwarnakar Uraw, Bhuwan KC, Akash Thapa, Roman Bam, Sagar Bhandari, Bipin Chand and Gaurav Chitkar
Strategic Player: Dipendra Singh Airee
Team Captain: Subash Khakurel
Talent Hunt Player: Sagar Bhandari
Foreign Players: Bipin Chand (India) and Gaurav Chitkar (India)
Strength: A young team led by an exuberant Airee and the experienced Khakurel.
Home team Attariya will get the home-crowd support despite not having any big name in the squad. The all-round talent in the team like Prem Tamang and Kushal Bhurtel as well as Krishna Karki and Sundeep Jora will help them have back-ups in both batting and bowling options in the eleven.
Probable XI: Khakurel, Chitkar, Airee, Bhurtel, Tamang, Karki, Kamal Airee, Bhandari, Uraw, Lama, Chand.
Team Owner: Golden Gate Education Network
Squad: Gyanendra Malla, Naresh Budhayer, Lalit Rajbanshi, Amit Shrestha, Santosh Bhatta, Kishore Mahato, Rashid Khan, Sanjay Shrestha, Shahab Alam, Pushpa Thapa, Bhupendra Thapa, Sanjay Basnet, Bikram Thagunna, Jaikishan Kolsawala and Sunny Patel.
Strategic Player and Team Captain: Gyanendra Malla
Talent Hunt Player: Bikram Thagunna
Foreign Players: Jaikishan Kolsawala (India) and Sunny Patel (India)
Strength: Two of the most sought out young pace-guns Rashid Khan and Kishore Mahato will lead the bowling along with equally potent Dhangadhi rookie bowler Bikram Thagunna.
Kolsawala is an exceptional talent that can carry the batting onus of this team.
Squad: Binod Bhandari, Karan KC, Avinash Karn, Aarif Sheikh, Pranit Thapa Magar, Hari Shankar Shah, Bhuwan Karki, Aasif Sheikh, Rohit Kumar Paudel, Punit Bisht, Puneet Mehra, Arun Airee, Robeen Chhetri, Dipendra Chand and Narayan Joshi.
Strategic Player and Team Captain: Binod Bhandari
Talent Hunt Player: Narayan Joshi
Foreign Players: Punit Bisht (India) and Puneet Mehra (India)
Strength: Three top-class all-rounders in Aarif Sheikh, Puneet Mehra and Karan KC can turn the match with ball as well as the bat.
The situation is as dire that skipper Shakti Gauchan might have to bat at the top order.
Similarly, they lack a proper wicket-keeper.
Team Owner: Suraj Upreti
Strategic Player and Team Captain: Shakti Gauchan
Talent Hunt Player: Prakash Jaisi
Foreign Players: Sufyan Mahmood (Oman) and Dipak Prasad (India)
Strength: The underdogs will not have the pressure to win the tournament and that might help them provide one or two surprises that may upset any team on their given day. Gauchan in tandem with Bhari have the potential to be the best left-arm duo of the tournament.
Lohani and Routela can get the ball to farthest if needed.
Weakness: They lack proper Nepali batsmen in the XI. Gauchan might have to take that extra responsibility of batting from the middle to end overs.
An overhaul of squad from last season left many eye brows raised after the DPL auctions.
The defending champions don’t have any of the players from the last squad with leadership going to Sompal Kami.
The arrival of, arguably the best foreign buy, Rohan Mustafa will give the much needed boost to the young squad of Chauraha.
Team Owner: Raj Shrestha
Squad: Sompal Kami, Rajesh Pulami Magar, Yogendra Singh Karki, Sonu Tamang, Rabindra Jung Shahi, Lalit Bhandari, Shankar Rana, Sunil Dhamala, Samsad Sheikh, Raju Rijal, Mahesh Adhikari, Aashu Kondoi, Rohan Mustafa, Puneet Mishra and Bijay Rana.
Strategic Player and Team Captain: Sompal Kami
Talent Hunt Player: BijayRana
Foreign Players: Rohan Mustafa (UAE) and Puneet Mishra (India)
Strength: They have at least five regular opening batsmen in the squad with Mustafa leading the lot. Rijal and Bijay Rana can open the batting too.
